Explanations Start

Catalan possessive adjectives agree with the noun being described in number and gender.

My brother germà a masculine noun would need the possesive meu. Conversely my sister germana a feminine noun would need the possesive meva. The possessive adjective in Catalan is "composed," (similar to Italian) meaning it is preceded by a definite article of the same number and gender (as the noun being described).

Continuing with the examples above, my brother requires the definite article el the and my sister requires the definite article la.

The example sentences make the above table (included for completeness) easier to understand with the lessons split into the Catalan pronouns for my and all the others. The rationale being that the pronoun 'My' is more frequently used when you are just starting to learn a language.

My brother lives in London El meu germà viu a Londres
My sister has two children La meva germana té dos fills
My sisters are tall Les meves germanes són altes
